Azou

Reviews

“It appeals with its determination to maintain the quality of the food. It appeals with the intelligence of its menu making. And it appeals with its prices too.”

Matthew Fort, The Guardian Magazine

“Six of the best…..” Spicing is one of the things that differentiates the cooking of Morocco from that of its neighbours. Azou Benarab, at his restaurant notes the broadly French influence on Algeria, the Italian on Tunisia, an the Spanish on Morocco (more saffron here, for example).
The preparation & consistency of couscous also differs from one country to another.

Jay Rayner, The Observer Magazine

“How welcome such a restaurant is, and how welcoming.”

Jonathon Meads - The Times Magazine

“The kitchen knows its business and the tagines and couscous are presented with some panache”

“The unusual and good food coupled with friendly and efficient service makes for an enjoyable evening out.”
“A gastronomic treasure in Hammersmith.”
“An excellent example of a North African restaurant.”

Hammersmith Restaurant reviews (website)

The interior is attractively decorated in classic North African furnishings and ornaments, creating an authentic and laid back feel.  We visited on a busy Saturday evening and there was also a really friendly vibe to the place, almost like everyone in the restaurant knew each other.  The food was the real star though, being cooked with real care and pride by the restaurant’s chef/owner Chris Benarab.

This small family-run restaurant is everything a good restaurant should be. The service is great, the food is superb and the atmosphere is un-pretentious and welcoming.

via OpenTable Feb 16  Maroccan pleasure - I first visited Azou 4-5 years ago after seeing Gordon Ramsey pick it as one of his absolute favourite restaurants in UK. It was really great food back then, and still very good. If you crave a rich meal with plenty of taste (who dosn't?) Maroccan cousine at its best is worth a go. You get it here with excellent service also. We'll come back for sure.

Locale caratteristico, piccolo ma curato. Ottimo cibo, cous cous e tajine, giusti i prezzi
A characteristic, small but well-kept. Great food, couscous and tajine, fair prices.

I have wanted to dine at Azou for some time now, finally doing so on 21/2/14. I only wished we visited this excellent restaurant sooner. I was not disappointed. We thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. Every dish was just superb. So much flavour and beautifully cooked, excellent cuisine. The staff are very obliging, attentive and all added to the great atmosphere. Chris the chef & owner obviously cares a great deal about the food he serves and the experience his customers have. We will definitely be back soon, this time with friends, so they can enjoy a wonderful experience too. Thanks Azou - Steve & Sheila (Epsom, Surrey)
